The last sessions of the training centers on the final re-evaluation phase, reflecting on progress and addressing residual trauma symptoms. Throughout the 8-module training program, participants will not only acquire practical skills and theoretical knowledge but also cultivate a deeper understanding of trauma-informed care and the transformative power of EMDR therapy. Megan Salar, MSW, ACADC, is an EMDR Clinician, Trainer and Author who earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from Northwest Nazarene University in 2011. She has been extensively been trained on the use of EMDR and other trauma based interventions and specializes in the areas of trauma, abuse, attachment and substance abuse. Megan has trained thousands of clinicians across the U.S. as well as internationally to get the most out of EMDR, trauma and addiction-based skills and practices.

Megan previously owned/operated an intensive outpatient treatment center that was voted best in practice in 2019. She currently owns and operates her own Coaching, Consulting, and Training Business and is passionate about genuinely changing the landscape of mental health and trauma treatment through an authentic hands-on perspective that is uniquely her own.

Megan is the author of the EMDR Workbook for Trauma and PTSD: Skills to Manage Triggers, Move Beyond Traumatic Memories; and Take Back Your Life released by New Harbinger Publications in May of 2023 and EMDR for Dummies with Wiley Publishing set to release in June 2024. Learning Objectives

After attending this training, participants will be able to

  • Review effective forms of bilateral stimulation techniques and how to assess which is appropriate for client needs.
  • Demonstrate how to assess for and identify reprocessing during an EMDR session.
  • Implement appropriate closure, safety and confidentiality techniques within EMDR.
  • Assess considerations with children & adolescents and other specialized populations within EMDR.
  • Review and identify ethical considerations within use of EMDR.
  • Implement effective ways to incorporate EMDR via Telehealth and in person.

  • Understanding the goals of this phase
  • Exploring the importance of the neural networks of trauma and ‘staying out of the way,’
  • Phase 3 Protocol Set up with live demo
  • Client’s role and clinician’s role in EMDR
  • Introducing Phase 4: Desensitization.
    • Goal of this phase
    • Exploring the use of BLS during this phase
    • Identifying mile markers during desensitization
    • Live demo

Module 6: November 2nd, 2024 8:30-12:15 Pacific Time

Practice session 2- 1:00-4:15 Pacific Time

  • Review of Phases 3 & 4
    • Analyzing Phase 5: Installation
    • Exploring the goal of this phase, rating the VOC, checking in on PC, assessing the SUD
    • Identifying the change in BLS during this phase
    • How to use a mini installation for incomplete sessions
  • Analyzing Phase 6: Body Scan and checking in with physical sensations
    • Review of a full EMDR demonstration
    • Assessing for a complete vs. incomplete processing session
    • Using resourcing skills to assist with closure
    • Analyzing Phase 7: Closure

Module 7: November 16th, 2024 8:30-12:15 Pacific Time

  • Review of Phase 7: Closure and assessing for new targets
    • Analyzing Phase 8: Re-Evaluation
  • Reviewing how to return to an incomplete sessions
  • Exploring the Pacing of sessions and how to space EMDR sessions
    • Assessing what to target and treatment planning
  • Interweaves and the use of interweaves through Demonstration and review of demonstration

  • Identifying how to find salient targets through the use of bridge back and forward technique
  • Understanding Restricted Processing and when to utilize
  • Restricted processing demo
  • How to target somatic symptoms with the Pain Protocol
  • Learning about targeting somatic symptoms with the Affect Tolerance
  • Demo on Pain Protocol
  • How to build and create resources out of somatic processes with affect tolerance
  • How to target sleep/dream disturbances
